With a bold vision, the proposed master plan for the new Western Sydney Lakes has been revealed to the premier to turn Penrith Lakes into a world class waterway destination.
Currently home to the Penrith Whitewater Stadium and the Sydney International Regatta Centre, the 2000-hectare site will consist of a promising waterfront, public lakes, beaches, and waterside pavilion close to the new Western Sydney International Airport.
Plans for the new development will also include an extension of the Great River Walk and construction of a 20km walking and cycleway, with training and racing opportunities for triathlon and cycle clubs.
In addition, a proposed Production Precinct is also in the mix, which will include film and TV studios, production stages, filming tanks, construction, and design facilities.
Western Sydney Lakes is set to meet the growing recreational needs for Sydneysiders in the west and contribute to a potential five thousand direct jobs and ten thousand indirect jobs, offering a refreshing climate for people to work, play, and relax.
“This will not only be Western Sydney’s playground, but one of the country’s truly iconic attractions that combines the best that a harbour foreshore and beachfront has to offer in the heart of Western Sydney.”, said Jacqueline Vozzo, CEO of Western Sydney Lakes.
With the announcement of Western Sydney Lakes set to unlock a portion of the beach towards the end of month, residents of Penrith and surrounding areas will be able to experience a little of what is to come.
Towards the end of December, the beach will be open to the public just in time for the summer period, providing residents with a place to cool off, refresh and swim. The space will be fully accessible for all people and will have room to host food trucks, enhancing the beachside culture and essence of the area.
