Project Win — Al Sadiq College Primary School Campus, Chester Hill

Development Approval Granted

We’re pleased to share that Furfaro Architects has secured Development Approval for the transformation of a disused retirement village in Chester Hill into a new primary school campus for Al Sadiq College.

Designed to support 228 students, the project reimagines the existing buildings as active learning environments while retaining the original courtyard layout. The result is a campus defined by connected outdoor spaces — lively playgrounds and communal zones that prioritise movement, interaction, and the everyday experience of students.

The approval marks an important step forward for both the school community and the site itself, giving new purpose to a place that had previously fallen out of use.

Adaptive Reuse at the Centre of the Design

The design approach focused on adaptive reuse, working with the existing structures rather than replacing them. The original roof structures, walls, floor slabs, and courtyard spaces have been retained, with the project centred on a comprehensive internal reconfiguration to support contemporary learning environments.

Former aged-care buildings are being transformed into flexible classrooms, staff areas, and shared learning spaces. By retaining much of the original built fabric, the project reduces unnecessary demolition while allowing the campus to grow from what already exists on the site.

Designing for Students and Community

The new campus introduces several purpose-built facilities designed to support both learning and community life. These include a central library, music room, and a dedicated arts and crafts centre, alongside upgraded outdoor play areas formed within the existing courtyard spaces.

Together, these elements create a school environment that balances structured learning with open, active spaces where students can gather, play, and move throughout the day.

For the Al Sadiq College community, the project represents more than the reuse of an existing site — it is the beginning of a new chapter for a growing school campus in Chester Hill.

The Next Stage

With development approval now secured, the project is progressing into the construction approval phase. Our team continues to work closely with the school and consultant team to prepare the detailed documentation required to deliver the project.

We look forward to seeing the transformation of the site unfold — from a disused retirement village into a vibrant place of learning and community for the students who will soon call it their school.

If you’re planning an education, community, or adaptive reuse project in a growing area, our team would be pleased to support your next stage.
